Wilfred John WOMACK, son of Oswald WOMACK (c. 1856-1926) and Elizabeth LUDBROOKE (1863-1944), was born on 30 August 1897 in North Lopham, Norfolk and was baptised there on 10 October 1897; the ceremony was conducted by Rev. Arthur PETERS, curate - parents Oswald (wheelwright) and Elizabeth. The military records for Wilfred are very poorly preserved and quite difficult to read. ... Summary of what can be deciphered ... He was attested into the army of 5 February 1916 and placed on the Army Reserve the following day. Wilfred was mobilised on 26 October 1916 and was posted to the A.S.C. M.T. Res. Depot at Grove Park, serving on home soil until 27 March 1917. At some point he transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Private 28667. From 28 March 1917 he was in France with the British Expeditionary Force. On 24 February 1919 he was transferred to Class “Z” Army Reserve and finally dispersed on 21 March 1919. Wilfred died on 25 June 1934 in North Lopham and was buried there on 28 June 1934 in North Lopham.
